It can be tricky planning a child’s birthday party, or any party for that matter. Trying to work out what they’re going to like in a few month’s time for a start – not to mention the time and effort it takes to pull everything together – but one of the hardest things can be working out what to do when you have lots of different ages attending. What a 2 year old likes can be very different to what a 3 year old wants to do! Throw some 7 and 8 year olds in the mix and you can see why you might find things difficult.

It really doesn’t need to be like that though. For Autumn’s 2nd birthday party, I took inspiration from the toddler groups we go to – loads of different things to do and no real structure. Just a lovely fun time for everyone!

It’s a great idea to have a theme to tie everything together, it makes it such a fun experience for the children and looks great! Autumn absolutely loved bears at that time, so bears it was….

The bear theme with pink gingham accents ran through the whole party – personalised kraft party boxes with bear themed goodies inside, bear themed food (a bear face fruit platter is very effective!) and even bear books and puzzles in the chill out area. The children also love feeling a little grown up by having their own little table and chairs to eat their lunch and cake.

The most popular activity by far was Little White Workshop’s crafts. Suitable for all ages (with a little help from Mum or Dad for the young ones!), all the children had a wonderful time making bear ears to wear for the party. It’s great to do things that can be worn again so we went for more durable material, in this case felt. Autumn still has hers in her dressing up box! We had ages from 1 to 10 at this party and every single age group loved this activity, including the parents.

It’s also great for parents to have a memento to take away, so we designed a bear photobooth. Lots of fun for the children and parents, and meant Mum and Dad could take as many photos as they wanted.

So what are you waiting for! Give me a shout if you want help planning your next party…..
